Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves 1997
Dufouleur Père & Fils

Côte de Beaune red wines will tend to have softer characteristics compared to their Côte de Nuits counterparts. This great value Beaune 1er Cru is a very good example. And the cherry on the cake - a softer wine from a softer vintage. It makes this wine quite approachable even now.

The Dufouleur family is unable to trace their winemaking history before 1574 because the town of Nuits St Georges burned to the ground twice - in 1569 and 1576 - therefore all documentation was lost. But they suspect that the family has been landowners in Nuits St Georges since the 11th century.

This Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves 1997 has a clear, limpid, ruby red color. The aromas of black cherry are combined with a slightly earthy nose. Our first, soft impression is the elegance of the Côte de Beaune. The tannins are soft and there is a good persistence. This silver medal winner at the 2000 Tasting Exposition in Macon delivers everything we look for in a Beaune 1er Cru 1997, and more.
