We keep a special place in our hearts for Pommard, since it is the Côte de Beaune cousin of our hometown, Nuits St Georges. You learn quickly in Burgundy that each village and field has its own terroir and personality. When you try to categorize villages, you find that Nuits and Pommard are both "powerhouse" villages; producing strongly structured, full-bodied wines. With further research, you learn that the sub-soil is virtually identical even though the villages are more than 30 kilometers apart. The beauty of Burgundy!

With this Pommard Rugiens 1er cru, you'll see a beautiful, intense color and smell full and fruity aromas. On the palate, there is a great balance between fruit and tannins. It's a well-structured wine. It is very pleasant for drinking now, or you can age it to get some more softness.

The powerful wines of Burgundy, such as this one, are reserved for strong, gamey meats or strong cheeses.
